The newer version is way better. They got rid of that stupid gold coating, and put a handle insert in it to make it a more comfortable handle. Great beast of a knife.

I own this heavy beast. Almost rediculessly heavy! The blade is awesome,but it's so handle heavy it's very handle to blade heavy. I had to rubber tape the handle. Looks crappy but fully functional now. Too slippery without. It's Jan now,come March I'll comment again after it's been taken some abuse backpacking. Not a good chopper because all weight in the handle. Otherwise flawlessly ground sharp hair popping edge!

Newbies out there: you DO NOT NEED super steels to be prepared! That is for fanboys. The steel used in this knife is tough and will resist permanent bending. It is used on AIRCRAFT parts requiring ball bearings. Sounds like critical use to me. Buy a great knife that does not have a designers name on it (such as Coach, Gucci…) and man up and use it.
