Benchmade 940 Osbourne Knife Review (My Favorite EDC Knife)

Love this knife bought mine a year ago. It goes everywhere with me. If I forget it I’ll turn around to come back and get it. The chalkiness goes away after you break it in. I remember that feeling. Didn’t care for it much at first. There’s nothin like the 940.

You just can’t underestimate the convenience of being able to close a knife with auto-assist speed. PM 2’s still require some sort of upper thigh assist to close.

So I debated a PM2 vs a 940, and which to get as my only EDC. I’ve gotten rid of a lot due to kind of falling out of the hobby. So I got the PM2 thinking I’d be sold on it. I got it, loved it, then was bored in a week. It’s just blah, nothing really spoke to me about it. I went to an AD, got my hands on a 940, and there was no looking back. I was instantly hooked. I get people say the PM2 is cheaper. But when your talking about something you plan to use everyday and have for a long time, I don’t think price should be your primary consideration. It’s no knock on the PM2. It’s a great knife, just not for me. It’s all up to preference.

Be prepared to send it back to benchmade when the omega springs break from flicking it open and closed, otherwise a great knife

A PM2 is nowhere near as nice as a 940. Not to mention, Benchmade is a better company that produces better products than Spyderco all around.

I don't understand a 'review' whereby the product is not shown in use. Repeatedly fondling it and flicking it open means nothing to me. I want to see it being used. It's like buying a Bentley and simply sitting in it and looking at the toys it has. How does it drive? Thumbs up for effort but not impressed.

I did the same. I also have been wanting this knife for a long time but kept putting it off. Each time the opportunity arose, I passed because I wanted another limited edition blade which couldn't wait or was the last piece. Then when I was ready, it was out of stock. Lastest chance, I opted for the 940-1 CF because I had the extra cash. So until now, I still don't have the classic green aluminum version. Today I checked and again, out of stock. Won't miss the next chance.

Are you a lefty? That's a prize point with most of Benchmade's blades – ambidexterous lock, and an awesome one at that! This particular 940 is my favourite, having that fairly robust tip is another plus for me.
Have you tried the Barrage? Another underrated Osborne design, in my opinion.

Good presentation! (New sub)
It's funny how our tastes morph as knife lovers. When I first saw the 940 I was very underwhelmed. Now I'm ordering one tomorrow as soon as I decide which of the many variants I want. Do love that green & purple though!

This is my dream knife. I've been saving up for a 940 for a couple months and was going to buy it on Amazon, but while driving through a nearby city, I noticed a shop that had Benchmade knives for sale and my friend and I went to take a look and they had a 940 for the exact same price as Amazon and I got to hold it and I love it. I can't wait to go pick one up sometime soon and order the same pocket clip except parkerized from Benchmade.

I love my 940! I have way more Spydie's than I do BM's, but this knife Kicks Azz! I Gave up my Griptilian over this one because it feels stout & doesn't feel cheap like some of their designs do. I gave my wife the Rat-1 when I bought the 940. My fave EDC is the PM2 in my left pocket & the 940 in my right. Thanks for the video!

If you contact benchmade, they will send you any pocket clip you want at no cost. I usually get the classic parkerized ones.

awesome review. one of the things i enjoyed the most was the fact that you actually play around with it a lot. i hate watching reviews where they only open the knife once, it gives you no idea of what the action is like on the knife

I've had the 940 for several years and it's a champ in all respect. I lives up to all the reviews, no hype. I would say it's as good as an Sebenza.
